Synopsis

Fareed Baraka is an interdisciplinary artist working across conceptual art, new media art, sound art, and music.

His artistic journey began as a classically trained guitarist and composer, with a practice focused on Western Classical music, Arabic Classical music, pop music, and sound art. He then studied computer science at TU Berlin, specializing in the intersection between artificial intelligence and astrophysics, with electives in creative technologies, new media art, and philosophy of art. At university, he helped develop and implement new computational techniques and scientific methodologies to bring new art tools into being, such as the project Neuro-Sonix.

He went on to work at Coculture, a Berlin-based cultural organization and art studio, as an art production assistant and sound artist, where he learned the principles of conceptual art and creative activism — an experience that inspired him to create his own conceptual artworks exploring themes of human-machine connection, mental health, and analog-digital art synthesis.

Music & Composition

• Classical Guitar: Classically trained guitarist actively performing solo and ensemble concerts across Western Classical and Arabic Classical repertoires.
• Solo & Pop Projects: Producer and songwriter creating pop and multi-genre works under his self-titled solo project Fareed Baraka.
• Film Scoring: Original soundtrack composition for the short film Amentia (TU Berlin).
• Collaborations & Bands: Active recording and live collaborator with Tau & the Drones of Praise, Magic Of Sound, and featured studio work with Jonathan Dreyfus and A.S. Fanning.

Sound Art & Live Performances

• ABSENCE (Sound Art): Created original sound art for the group exhibition featuring Hana El-Sagini, Hend El Balouty, Marian Aazer, Razan Sabbagh, Rozeen Bisharat, and Ruba Salameh (organized by UdK Berlin Career College's Artist Training program; hosted at Coculture Space, Berlin).
• Invisible Cages (Sound Art): Designed sound art for Amer Al Akel's solo exhibition at Coculture Space, Berlin.
• Tcheckpo Dance Company Performance (Live Music): Performed live improvisational music with Miroslav Grosser for Tcheckpo Dance Company in cooperation with Elisabet Masé's project Der Mantel at Künstlerhaus Bethanien (Kunst gegen Ausgrenzung exhibition).
• Institute of Arabic Music Berlin (AMI): Live performance alongside AMI founder Nabil Al-Arbaeen at Villa Kultur Berlin.

Conceptual Art

• Worldview (Conceptual / Video Art): An exploration of behavioral equivalence and artificial perception. Revisiting Alan Turing's imitation game, the work addresses the tension between neural network architecture and internal human experience.
• Merit (Conceptual Video / New Media Art): A critical response to generative AI authorial claims. Uses hand-drawn colored pencil drawings as the core origin, employing AI solely as an instrumental motion engine (like a press or loom) to animate physical artwork.
• Hey! (Conceptual Photography / Video Art): A project investigating presence and re-enchantment, framing the camera lens as an anchor to break psychological isolation and re-engage with environmental light and presence.

AI & New Media Art

• Neuro-Sonix (New Media / Sound Art): Developed and implemented an AI text-to-music sonification pipeline that maps text to pitch, duration, and dynamics, using AI to shape harmonic velocity (e.g., the rendered piece "A Missing Camera").
• Economy Of Art (TU Berlin): Collaborative data science practicum analyzing a dataset of 37,000+ paintings ($9.47B total valuation) to measure correlations between artwork traits (brightness, artist nationality) and market values.
• Art & Science Research: Draws on methodologies from astrophysics and computer science to design original computational tools for artistic production. Moreover exploring artistic themes through scientific methods, blurring the boundary between the two disciplines.
